Third Annual Uptown Garden Walk: Saturday, September 8, 2018

1:00 PM Trees of Uptown Tour, led by Andrew Lueck of Planned Forest

2:00 PM Garden Party Reception in Clarendon Park Community Garden

3:00 PM Plan(ts) and People Tour, led by Melanie Eckner

RSVP here for tours and reception!

Both guided tours start at Clarendon Park Community Center, 4501 N. Clarendon. A theme for both tours is "common ground," exploring the ways green space serves as a shared resource and the implications this resource has on planning. The Trees of Uptown Tour will explore this theme specifically through trees, highlighting tree preservation, financial implications of trees, and resources community members can use in the future. The Plan(ts) and People Tour will explore landscape architect Alfred Caldwell’s plan for Uptown’s coastal trails. The Garden Party Reception welcomes residents, gardeners, and others to mingle and connect with stewardship opportunities in Uptown.

The two self-guided tours are Common Ground and Community Plots, with each tour highlighting ways for community members to engage with gardens in the community. The Common Ground gardens showcase volunteer maintained community parks and gardens, and the Community Plots gardens showcase shared garden spaces available for individual gardeners to cultivate.

Stay tuned for a map of gardens for self-guided tours and information about getting involved in local gardens!

About

The Uptown Garden Walk started in 2016, initially planned with ICA and volunteers at the February 27th Seed Swap and Hub Day. ICA staff and volunteers have continued the annual walk to celebrate Uptown's public and community gardens, encouraging walkers to appreciate local assets and connect with ways to provide stewardship to those assets. See 2016 and 2017 Garden Walk resources.
