The First Annual Garden Walk was a great success on July 16th, 2016! Read the full report here.

Why a Garden Walk?

The First Annual Uptown Garden Walk was initially planned at the February 27th Seed Swap & Garden Hub Day at the ICA GreenRise with input from interested community residents. When it was clear that there was significant interest in making the walk happen, ICA proceeded as the Garden Walk organizing sponsor with a dedicated team of volunteers.

The Garden Walk team is excited about this walk for many reasons! Some answers to "Why plan a garden walk?" are listed below.

  • Gardens are all over Uptown! It's fun for gardeners and garden admirers alike to explore the beautiful, natural assets in the community.
  • The walking component is just as important as the gardens. By walking from garden to garden, the event encourages Garden Walkers to explore Uptown by foot and experience the various districts at a leisurely pace, celebrating Uptown as a walkable neighborhood.
  • It's a fun way to meet neighbors, either through walking with them on a tour or learning about their hard work in their gardens.
  • Seeing such dutifully tended gardens is not only an inspiration for current gardeners, but it also encourages people who are on the fence to give their own green thumbs a try!

Thanks to our many sponsors!
